Crisis Response Network, Inc. and Valley Police Departments partner in Crisis Intervention Training

The Crisis Response Network is proud to be a participant in the Crisis Intervention Training (CIT). CRN and Magellan Health Services of Arizona co-facilitate the “Overview of the Crisis System” component of the CIT curriculum. The crisis system overview provides officers with a working knowledge of available crisis services and resources, appropriate information disclosure and instructions on quickly obtaining face to face crisis intervention and transportation in Maricopa County.

Police officers are frequently called upon to respond to crisis situations involving persons with serious mental illness. The officers who respond to these calls often lack any specialized training or knowledge in dealing with the mentally ill and their families. The Crisis Intervention Training program was implemented to provide police officers insight into effectively interacting with and responding to crisis situations and persons within the mental health system. It also provides techniques and training to help to decrease situations from becoming escalated.

As the single point of contact for law enforcement and emergency medical services to obtain crisis services, CRN is committed to providing timely service to first responders.

At the April 23rd CRN Governance Board meeting, Phoenix Police Officer, Nick Margiotta presented Crisis Supervisor Jeff Dragan with Service Award from the Phoenix Police Department. The award recognized Jeff’s long standing commitment to the CIT training program and to serving the behavioral health community.

Crisis Recovery Network participates in My Fest 09

The Crisis Response Network, Inc. joined in the excitement of My Fest 09 on Saturday, April 11th. Magellan’s Youth Leadership team, My Life (Magellan Youth Leaders Inspiring Future Empowerment) planned and produced My Fest which featured live bands, entertainers, free food, artists and exhibits from a wide variety of valley youth based organizations.

Crisis staff from the Crisis Response Network, Inc. volunteered their time at the Network’s booth passing out beach ball give aways, balloons and laminated Maricopa Crisis Line cards so that the youth can keep the crisis line information in the backpacks and wallets. CPS Stabilization teams from TERROS and EMPACT-SPC chaperoned kids from their programs and gave them the opportunity to participate in all of the activities of My Fest.

My Life is made up of youth between the ages of 13 and 23 who have experience with mental health, substance abuse and/or foster care related issues. My Life provides these youth with an active voice in improving the youth care system.
